Darksiders 2 dlc reviews5/1/2023 It’s a massive overhaul, and it shows in the new comparison screenshots released today. They call it: Darksiders II Deathinitive Editionĭarksiders II Deathinitive Edition includes completely reworked visuals, rebalanced gameplay, and integrated DLC. Gunfire Games is giving this honorable title a last hurrah and then some by offering a perfected version of the game for PS4 (other platforms have yet to be announced). In essence it took the ‘Zelda’ formula and added less tedium, more loot, RPG elements such as level ups, and a superior combat system.īut the question then arises why did it fail so badly? And the truth is that it was a stupidly high budget game, reportedly with a budget of $50,000,000 and, after going live, breaking even seemed an impossibility and THQ, it’s publisher, filed for bankruptcy soon after literally ruining the chances of the game being marketed enough to grab the attention of the masses.īut all is not lost. Darksiders II was an open world platformer/hack n slash with a fantastic art style, great voice-acting, atmosphere and story. Review copy of game provided by publisher.Darksiders II was a seriously under-rated game of the not so distant past. I know this is the season for all the new, big games to drop, but if you never got to step into Death’s grimy shoes, I cannot recommend this game enough. It is a fantastic game that stands the test of time. Truly this is one franchise that needs to make a triumphant return.įor anyone that missed the original release of Darksiders II, I implore you to give it a go this time around. These pieces of DLC which felt separate from the main campaign have now been integrated into the game and. I would have loved to see the complete collection followed by an announcement that we were finally getting the third game in the series. Darksiders 2 has a lot of DLC in the form of weapons, armor and unique locations. Not only is the story important, the first game was essentially a Mature-rated Zelda title that played fantastically. If there is one downside to this re-release it is that the first game is not included as well. The game does run a little long in the tooth, but still remains one of the best adventure games from the past generation. There is also a level-up system with two distinct trees of abilities. It mashes all of these styles together perfectly, and plays like a dream. There are dungeons filled with puzzles, loot to be collected and equipped, and z-targeting combat with some serious kick behind it. The game plays like a hybrid of genres including mixes of Zelda and Diablo. These games still have some of the best voices in gaming, Death himself is played by Michael Wincott. The story is actually really epic, and the voice acting alone drives that point home. Darksiders II stars Death, as he attempts to clear his brother War’s name from the events of the first game. I still love exploring them, even though I have played through the game twice before this release.įor those that never played the original, now is the time. Characters and areas within the game are some of the most beautifully designed I have ever seen. The art direction from the team at Vigil is unparalleled. While not quite reaching that magical 60 frames per second, this game is still gorgeous. This is Darksiders II, complete with all the post launch DLC running at 1080p. the Wii U version includes the Argul’s Tomb DLC. Let’s talk about what we get with this version. Darksiders II represents the latest offering from developer Vigil Games, a direct follow-up to the 2010 original. Sure the DLC is throwaway, and the core game runs a bit too long for its own good, but few games captured what this series managed to do in the span of two games. When THQ went under, publisher Nordic Games acquired the rights to the series, along with a host of other THQ IPs in a massive fire sale, but this is the only one I really hope they manage to do something with.ĭarksiders II: Deathinitive Edition might be a silly name, but the fact remains that this is one outstanding game. Vigil’s tale of the Four Horsemen is still one of the best in its class, and it died far too soon. If there is a series I regret seeing die more than any other, it is Darksiders.
